WHY THIS RACE MATTERS

  • Open seat previously held by Senator Rachel Hunt who is running for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina
  • Keeping this open seat under pro-environment control would help break the anti-conservation supermajority in the Senate

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Woodson Bradley is a mom, wife, small business owner, and fierce friend for those in her community. She is happily married to William, a small business owner himself and thirty year veteran of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's department. Together, with three children — Shannon, Stone, and Carter — they have a “wonderful, messy, fun, and beautiful blended family.

Woodson is a sexual assault and domestic violence survivor and has had to speak up and fight for her rights and her family. She understands the challenges of being a single parent and the need for a robust social service system – because she and her children were clients themselves. Woodson's story is a testament to her resiliency, courage, and fierce advocacy on behalf of herself and others. She is a proud member of the Mecklenburg County Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau and a classroom instructor for “Love Speaks Out,” a teen dating violence prevention program. She’s also a member of the planning board for the Mecklenburg County Family Justice Center, known as the Umbrella Center.

As the daughter of a public school teacher and social worker who worked in the juvenile court system, community service has always been an important part of her life. Woodson and her family continue the tradition of service to this day – she teaches group fitness classes at the Greater Charlotte YMCA, she serves as the fall games venue manager for the NC Special Olympics, she’s the Booster President for the Marine Corps JROTC program, and she’s an active member of “North Carolina Community Action.

Woodson is fighting for a future where women have reproductive freedom, where our children are fully supported in public schools, where we all have access to clean air and water, and where our businesses can thrive.
