CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Tammy Baldwin is currently serving her second term to represent Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate. Baldwin previously served in the U.S. House, as a state representative, and on the Dane County Board of Supervisors. Baldwin was a strong proponent of the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant action Congress has ever taken to address climate change. Baldwin is Chair of the Commerce Subcommittee on Oceans, Fisheries, Climate Change, and Manufacturing, and in June 2023 announced a $2.6 billion plan to invest in Great Lakes and coastal resiliency through the Inflation Reduction Act. Additionally, the IRA awarded $13.5 million for projects in the the City of Milwaukee and Dane County for that will help plant trees, expand green spaces, and strengthen the pipeline of professionals entering urban forestry.

During her tenure on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Baldwin also helped author and pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. In the Senate, Senator Baldwin will continue to fight for clean air and water and will be a strong advocate for protecting Wisconsin’s national treasures, including the Great Lakes and the Ice Age Trail. Senator Baldwin has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Senator Baldwin is endorsed by LCV Action Fund and NRDC Action Fund.
