CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Representative Sean Casten is running for a fourth term to represent Illinois's 6th congressional district. Casten is a biochemical engineer who has worked for and run multiple companies focused on improving energy efficiency and clean energy technology. He also founded an advocacy organization that represented over 50 clean energy businesses. He served on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and now serves on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and is a co-chair of the New Democrats Climate Task Force. Since being elected in 2018, Rep. Casten has introduced and passed legislation to reduce carbon emissions from the federal government and to supercharge innovation for industrial decarbonization technologies. He also worked on the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act -- the largest investment in climate action in history. Representative Casten has earned a stellar lifetime score of 98% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
