Candidate Background
Representative Salud Carbajal is running for a fifth term to represent California’s 24th congressional district. A win will protect a critical House ally. Carbajal previously served as County Supervisor and on a number of environmental commissions. As County Supervisor, he led efforts to pass a climate action plan that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions countywide. He also worked to promote renewable energy by supporting the first large scale solar project and by making solar an accessible option for homeowners. In Congress, Carbajal will continue his efforts to protect and strengthen the federal Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, protect additional federal lands and open spaces, and oppose new offshore oil development. Representative Carbajal has also championed the protection of our public lands and oceans by working to create the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary and designate almost an additional 250,000 acres of the Carrizo Plain National Monument and Los Padres National Forest as wilderness.
In his service on the House Agriculture Committee, he has worked to craft policies that promote sustainable and climate friendly agriculture practices. And in his service on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, he has partnered on efforts to create cleaner transportation infrastructure. Representative Carbajal has earned a 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
