CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Ruben Gallego is running for a second term to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate. He formerly served Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives where he had been a longtime environmental champion and was a leader on climate action, earning a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Prior to serving in Congress, Gallego was a corporal in the Marine Corps serving in Iraq and a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2011 to 2014. Throughout his tenure in public office, Gallego has been a consistent supporter of the environment and action on climate change.  

Ruben Gallego helped pass the biggest investment in climate action and environmental justice ever, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and has championed the benefits this landmark legislation is providing for communities, including securing funding to improve air quality monitoring in Arizona. Ruben Gallego has stood up against industry exploitation of the Grand Canyon and other important natural places in Arizona, and has championed water conservation efforts and strengthening our democracy.
