CANDIDATE BACKGROUND 

Representative Ranjeev Puri is currently serving in his 2nd term in the Michigan House, and was also selected to serve as Democratic House Majority Whip by his peers. As a member of the Democratic leadership team, Representative Puri has played an integral role in the monumental and historic legislation passed during the newly found Democratic trifecta majority in the state of Michigan. 

He was a key member and lead sponsor in the ground breaking clean energy reforms passed in late 2023 in Michigan. His work focused on streamlining the permitting process for utility scale solar, wind and battery to ensure that Michigan is able to generate the needed clean energy to meet the state’s goals of the 2040 clean energy plan.

Representative Puri was the lead sponsor for the filter first clean water legislation signed into law last year, which enabled significant standards for requiring and implementing clean water filtration systems in all schools and child care centers across Michigan. Michigan is notoriously known for the Flint water crisis, his legislation turned Michigan into a national leader to ensure that every child in Michigan will have access to clean and safe drinking water. 

Representative Puri received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics, and his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the University of Chicago. His work prior to joining the legislature, was in the mobility and transportation sector. He is Chair of the House Transportation budget, and is a loud voice ensuring Michigan is working hard to transition to electric vehicles as quickly and efficiently as possible.
