Candidate Background

Representative Morgan McGarvey is running for a second term to represent Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. A native of Louisville, McGarvey is an attorney and former special assistant to the Attorney General of Kentucky. In 2012, he was elected to represent District 19 in the Kentucky State Senate and became Minority Floor Leader in 2018. He is running for Congress supporting bold climate action. In the state senate, he supported work on net metering provisions to bring utilities together with environmental leaders. He also opposed a 2019 bill that severely hampered the solar industry in favor of traditional utility companies. In the 2020 Senate session, McGarvey sponsored a resolution to make April 22 Environmental Education Day in Kentucky. In Congress, he will continue working to create more good-paying clean energy jobs in Kentucky and fight for a transition to clean renewable energy. He has earned a stellar 100% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard
