US Senate, MT

Jon Tester

ON THE ISSUES

  • Leading the fight for our public lands
  • Voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant action Congress has ever taken to address climate change
  • Earned 89% lifetime score on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard

WHY THIS RACE MATTERS

  • While Tester narrowly won this seat by a 3.5% margin in 2018, Trump carried Montana by 16.4 points in the 2020 presidential election
  • Protecting this vulnerable Senate seat in Montana will help retain the narrow pro-environment Senate majority, paving the way for climate action

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Jon Tester is currently serving his third term to represent Montana in the U.S. Senate. Tester previously served in the state Senate. Tester has shown consistent leadership on climate change, conservation issues, and renewable energy in rural communities. He has also worked to hold Big Oil accountable, supporting efforts to end taxpayer handouts and ensure companies pay the full amount for environmentally disastrous spills. Tester also helped pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which secured significant investments to improve and modernize the electrical grid to support the next generation of energy and also bolsters clean energy research and development in the Montana University System.

Senator Tester also worked across the aisle to introduce legislation that will help burn coal cleaner and capture the carbon emissions from coal-powered plants. In the Senate, Tester will continue to be a champion for Montana’s public lands and one of the leading advocates for the full funding and permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Senator Tester has earned a 89% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Senator Tester is endorsed by LCV Action Fund and NRDC Action Fund.
