CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Jared Moskowitz is running for a second term to represent Florida's 23rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. A native of Coral Springs, he worked as an intern for Vice President Al Gore and was one of President Obama’s electors at the 2008 Democratic Convention. In 2006, Moskowitz was elected to the Parkland City Commission. In this role, he worked to make the city more environmentally conscious. In 2012, Moskowitz successfully ran to represent Florida’s 97th district in the state legislature. In 2018, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Moskowitz as director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. There he focused on the recovery after Hurricane Michael. Moskowitz is credited with speeding up the recovery and securing much needed federal funding. Moskowitz also led the department throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and the early distribution of the vaccine. Moskowitz has an impressive environmental record dating back to his time on the Parkland City Commission. He worked to provide subsidies to households that purchased low-flow toilets and showerheads, energy efficient air conditioning units and fuel-efficient cars. In the state legislature he served on the House Select Committee on Hurricane Response and Preparedness and introduced numerous pro-environmental bills ranging from coral reef protection to preventing animal cruelty to stormwater management.  In Congress, he will continue to fight for a transition clean energy economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and investments to protect the Everglades. Representative Moskowitz has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
