CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Chellie Pingree is running for a ninth term to represent Maine’s 1st Congressional District. Pingree previously served in the state Senate and as President and CEO of Common Cause. Since being elected to the House, Pingree has introduced the Local Farms, Food and Jobs Act to provide additional opportunities for local and regional farmers and increase consumer access to healthy foods. She also authored a bill that would have studied the addition of Maine’s York River to the Wild and Scenic Rivers System, and has worked to protect Maine’s crucial waterfront areas. In Congress and as Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, Pingree will continue to be an outspoken leader for climate action and protecting Maine’s waterways. Representative Pingree has earned a 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
