CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Andrei Cherny is running to represent Arizona’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Andrei Cherny has a strong history of serving Arizonans and our country. He served as a Navy reserve intelligence officer, worked in the Clinton White House, served as the Assistant Attorney General for Arizona, as chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, and on the board of the Arizona League of Conservation Voters.

Andrei Cherny has spent much of his life  fighting the climate crisis and protecting our democracy. He co-founded and served as CEO of Aspiration Inc., a sustainability-focused financial services company that serves as an alternative to big banks. He told the Arizona Republic, “For Arizona, climate change is a clear and present danger given drought and rising temperatures. At the same time, making Arizona 'the Solar State' could create so many high-paying jobs. My company (Aspiration) planted over 100 million trees around the world, including some here in Phoenix, while helping millions move their bank deposits out of banks that use the funds to invest in oil and gas pipelines and drilling.” Addressing climate change, fighting for a fairer economy, and protecting our democracy are the central themes of his campaign. Cherny is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
