U.S. Senate, Connecticut
Richard Blumenthal
Senator Richard Blumenthal is running for his third term in the U.S. Senate, having been elected to succeed retiring Senator Chris Dodd in 2010. Senator Blumenthal has a long history in government fighting for environmental priorities, serving in the state House and Senate and 20 years as Connecticut’s Attorney General. As Attorney General, he was a vocal advocate for the need to combat global climate change, bringing suit against several coal-fired utilities in the Midwest for generating excess carbon pollution. As a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, he has fought for clean, renewable energy sources in Connecticut and to protect Connecticut’s natural resources. Senator Blumenthal is also a member of the Safe Oceans Caucus. His environmental record has earned him an excellent lifetime score of 98% on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard.
