CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Greg Landsman is running for a second term to represent Ohio's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He formerly served on the Cincinnati City Council from 2017-2022. In 1999, Landsman worked for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, helping her become the first woman elected Whip in the U.S. House. He worked on Bill Bradley’s 2000 presidential campaign then taught Spanish at a Virginia high school. After his graduation from Harvard Divinity School, Landsman was appointed by Governor Strickland as director of the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and as chair of the Ohio Anti-Poverty Task Force. In 2010, he became executive director of the education advocacy organization the StrivePartnership. In 2015, he started the 767 Group to help provide education and child advocacy support to communities. The next year he led the Cincinnati Preschool Promise ballot initiative campaign to ensure nearly every 3- and 4-year-old in the city had access to quality preschool. On the Cincinnati City Council, Landsman was a leader for sustainability. He supported efforts to get the city to 100 percent clean energy by 2035 and led the passage of a Balanced Development Plan, which measures how developers engage and communicate with residents of the neighborhood where they are proposing a project, whether the project is environmentally sustainable, creates and retains jobs, provides living wages to workers, is inclusive of people of color in hiring and contract work and creates or preserves affordable housing. He also put forward a set of policy proposals centered on equity, livability and growth for the city that includes proposed updates and funding for the city’s environmental justice ordinance.
