CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Andrea Salinas is running for a second term to represent Oregon's new 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She has worked for a number of Members of Congress and served as the legislative director for the Oregon Environmental Council, as an advocate for the Trust for Public Land and the Pew Charitable Trust. In September 2017, the commissioners of Multnomah and Clackamas counties unanimously chose Salinas to fill the vacant District 38 seat in the Oregon House of Representatives. After being re-elected in 2018, she rose in House leadership and served as House majority whip and chair of the Health Care Committee. 

Salinas served for nine years as a board member for Oregon LCV. As a state representative, Oregon LCV gave her a 94 percent lifetime score and she earned the organization's “Perseverance Award” in 2021. She has sponsored and cosponsored numerous bills on the environment, racial justice and equity, voting rights and campaign finance reform, and more. These include efforts to protect wildlife, protect children from toxic chemicals, establish environmental justice principles for the state, stop new fossil fuel development on state lands, incentivize solar power, protect drinking water, ban pesticides, promote electric vehicles, and to lower utility rates in environmental justice communities. Salinas earned a 100% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Salinas is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
